Three Year Olds |

PreKindergarten |
Art is a safe place for the students to express themselves using a variety of different media. Students explore and create using the different elements of art and design. A variety of different tools, materials, and techniques are taught. Students are encouraged to discuss their art work. Students are exposed to different types of art images through print media, posters, and actual pictures and sculptures.
At times our study in the art room will coincide with the IB units of study in their classrooms. |

Kindergarten |
Kindergarten students are exposed to many different types of media in which they create and explore ideas both two and three dimensionally. Students are encouraged to express themselves freely using different elements of art, tools, materials, and techniques.

First and Second Grades |
Students begin to explore their own personal art using a variety of different starting points, tools, mediums, and techniques. They are introduced to a variety of artists using books, prints, and videos. They are encouraged to begin to manipulate the materials and mediums with a purpose.
At times our study in the art room will coincide with the IB units of study in their classrooms. |

Third and Frouth Grades |
The students use a variety of materials, techniques and tools to develop an understanding that the choice of different tools and materials, result in different outcomes. They begin manipulating materials with a purpose and with increased control of their personal expression. Students will begin to identify elements of art and design.
At times our study in the art room will coincide with the IB units of study in their classrooms. |

Fifth and Sixth Grades |
Art is used as a form of communication and as expressive language. The students become more familiar with the different stages of the creative process from the gathering of initial ideas to the completion of the idea for a piece of work. A variety of media is used to explore and express ideas- both two and three dimensional. Students are encouraged to use specific art vocabulary when reflecting and critiquing artwork.
At times our study in the art room will coincide with the IB units of study in their classrooms, specifically in fifth grade, as part of their unit on creative expression.
In sixth grade, a major research art project will be developed resulting in a complete finished project during the year. |
