Important Academics |
| Language Arts |
The fifth grade class continues the focus on writing begun in fourth grade. They also work to develop important grammar and spelling skills that will enable them to become better writers. Students read many novels throughout the year. |
| Mathematics |
Everyday Mathematics encourages students to use a variety of strategies to solve problems. Fifth graders study factors, estimation, geometry, division, fractions, decimals, and percents, exponents, area and volume, probability, and simple algebra concepts. |
| Social Studies |
Fifth graders review the revolutionary war and then move through the remainder of American history, usually ending with a look at World War I. |
| Science |
Science is an important component of the fifth grade year. Many important concepts are covered in the IB units including body systems, matter, energy and ecology. In the spring semester, students work through the scientific research process, then prepare and present an individual scientific experiment. |

Our Role in St. Paul's City |
The fifth grade class, as St. Paul’s Bank, makes the St. Paul’s currency, Paulers, distributes paychecks, and opens on Fridays for students to deposit or withdraw money. They also manage the checking accounts of third through sixth grade students. |
