Important Academics
Language Arts
A strong emphasis is placed on language skills in first grade. Students write daily in journals, work on basic grammar skills and continue phonics and spelling activities begun in kindergarten. Reading skills are practiced in small groups with the teacher.
Mathematics
Everyday Mathematics encourages students to use a variety of strategies to solve problems. First graders become familiar with the number line, learn basic addition and subtraction facts, recognize geometric shapes, and learn the foundations for understanding fractions. The math curriculum allows the students to practice what they have learned in game form as well.
Social Studies/
Science
Much of the social studies and science curriculum is learned through the IB units. Students also engage in scientific learning through bi-weekly experiments in the science lab.
Co-Curricular
First Grade students attend all co-curricular classes. Learn more about what they do on each co-curricular page. ART ~ MUSIC ~ TECHNOLOGY ~ PE ~ SPANISH

Our Role in St. Paul's City

The first graders run the St. Paul’s Post Office. They make stamps and sell them to students and parents. Then anyone who is part of the St. Paul’s family can send mail to a student or teacher. The first grade class sorts the mail and delivers the letters in their official uniforms. Students all over the school look forward to receiving mail.
