Weekly Learning Experiences

Reading/Language Arts

Students are working on comprehension during Read to Self, fluency during Read to Someone, building vocabulary during Listen to Reading, practicing phonics during Word Work, and practicing writing self-selected stories during Work on Writing. Students will be studying the “ow” sound this week and writing fables.

Math

We will continue unit 10 this week, which reviews everything the students have learned this year. Students will review fractions, geometry and fact families. Students will take an end of year assessment on Friday.

IB/Social Studies/Science

We will be continuing our Once Upon a Time unit this week. We will read different fairy tales and identify the character, setting, conflict and resolution. Students will read Jack and the Beanstalk and plant a bean. They will continue writing fables.

Spelling

Students are studying the “ow” and “ou” sound and spelling pattern. The spelling words are: sound, mouse, count, crown, growl, now. The high-frequency words are: people, should, beginning, middle. The bonus words are: princess, prince

Art

Students are painting portraits of fairy tale characters.

Music

Students are practicing their Peter and the Wolf puppet show. They will perform the puppet show in town meeting on Friday.
