Making Sense of Our World ~ There are five senses and we use them to explore the world around us.

My School House is a School Home ~ Our school is a community which helps us to live and learn together with other people.

Ready to Publish ~ Authors and illustrators use their personal experience and interests to create different forms of literature to entertain and inform.

What's the Matter ~ Matter exists in three common forms and can change from one form to another.

Hi Ho Hi Ho It’s Off to Work We Go ~ People contribute to their community by choosing to do many different types of work.

The Circle of Life ~ Animals are important to our world and human activities affect them.

Learning Experiences
Reading
Students learn a ring of sight words and take home weekly readers to read with parents at home. Toward the end of the year, students begin taking spelling tests.
Mathematics
Using Everyday Math, students learn about pattern shapes, time, coins, and addition and subtraction.
Social Studies/Science
Our IB units cover the science and social studies topics. We occasionally do extra science experiments and we discuss the social aspects of living in a community.
Centers in Our Room

Listening & Reading ~ This center has a tape recorder with headphones. Children listen to short stories as they follow along in their books. They draw or write about their favorite character or event.

Writing ~ In this center, children are encouraged to write sentences, stories, or friendly letters. Stationery, stamps, and writing utensils are available for student use.

Math ~ This center provides hands on experiences in counting, measuring, and addition & subtraction. Manipulatives include geoboards, pattern blocks, balance scales, and coins.

Blocks ~ Children develop math concepts and motor skills while building with Legos, Lincoln logs, and large wooden blocks.

Art ~ This center encourages children to be creative while developing fine motor skills. Projects often include cutting, gluing, painting, and drawing.

Discovery ~ This center often goes along with our current IB unit. We also include fun science learning activities as well.
