Faculty News

Some of you may have already heard that Heather Mc Nair, our 4th grade teacher will be taking some time off for surgery.  God willing it will be a quick recovery and she will return in a relatively short time.  With Spring Break and Easter Break both in March this year, it will lessen the impact of her being gone.  She is scheduled for surgery on February 28th in Dallas.  The good news for us and for the students is that we have Shelly Negrete waiting in the wings to take over as long as is needed.  Shelly is a certified teacher and was hired last year with the intention of moving her into the next available teaching opportunity.  Although this is a temporary move, it will give Shelly some great classroom experience before next year.  Speaking of next year… I will be looking for a part-time Spanish teacher and probably an additional 2 year-old teacher and 2 year-old aide.  Please refer anyone that might be interested in one of those positions to me as soon as possible.  I am interviewing now for open positions.  I hope to see you at Open House tonight (Tuesday).

IB in Action

Attitude of the Week ~ Empathy
~ To try to understand the thoughts, actions,
and emotions of your peers~

Putting it all together ~ Last Friday, 1st through 6th grade students took a look back at some of the IB attitudes they've covered so far and thought about them in terms of a US soldier. Students thought that soldiers would have to show appreciation for their country to fight for it, commitment to getting the job done even when it's hard or scary, confidence in their ability to use the equipment and do their job, cooperation with the other soldiers especially since they have to live and work together 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and creativity in finding new ways to bring peace to the world. Students were then able to use all of those attitudes themselves to make cards thanking the troops for their service. These cards along with some candy will be sent to an army brigade currently serving in Iraq.

Moving Up Night

Who is invited? Current and prospective parents and children.**

What will we do? Visit your child’s classroom for next year. Meet the teacher and gain insight into what opportunities await your child. Check out our fabulous co-curricular classrooms as well.

When should we come? Tuesday, February 19. Come and go between 6:30 and 7:30. Grab a nametag in the church parlor or school foyer and head to the room!

Why is this night important? This is a wonderful opportunity to stay plugged in to what your child is doing at school, to interact with other parents, and to get your child excited about next year.

Bring your friends and share our wonderful school with them!

**Parents are requested to keep children with them
at all times throughout the evening.

Project Suitcase

The City Council is collecting “slightly used” suitcases and duffle bags for foster children to be distributed through Child Protective Services.  The child will be given a suitcase to keep his or her belongings and special items with them when being removed from their home. (Normally they would use trash bags). Please drop off your “slightly used” suitcases in the Parish Hall any time in February!
