IB Parent Night

This Friday is one of the events that most of our children wait all year for.  It’s Dad’s Breakfast and a chance for our dads of the school to get together in the Parish Hall for breakfast, time with their children, and time with each other.  It’s the only time of the year that we invite only the dads for some male-bonding and a time for them to be impressed with their child’s classroom and all that they are learning.  I hope you are able to attend this amazing time together.

Next Tuesday evening is our second IB Parent Night.  The first night was a huge success with so many parents and board members getting the opportunity to learn more about the IB program and how it all comes together here at St. Paul’s.  We will be starting a huge marketing campaign led by Karina Deaver in the next few weeks that includes a web site dedicated to IB at St. Paul’s.  It is important that you know all you can about the program so that you can discuss it with prospective families.  Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you on February 12th at 6:30 in the Parish Hall.

Open House & Moving Up Night

Our annual Open House & Moving Up Night will take place February 19 at 6:30 p.m. This year, we will have the school open and teachers will be in their classrooms to talk with both current and potential parents. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to see what your child will be experiencing over the next few years.

Prospective Parents are invited to come either to our Moving Up Night or to a day time open house on Wednesday, February 20. Parents who choose this option will be able to see children engaging in the classroom activities as well as have a chance to meet the teacher.

If you know of someone who might be interested in coming to St. Paul's, we have open spots in our three year old class and in 1st through 6th grades. We'd love to send an invitation to anyone you know. Please call or e-mail Leah Delafield with prospective candidates.

IB in Action

Attitude of the Week ~ Cooperation
~ To work together and know that not everyone can be the leader~

Three Year Olds ~ "The world around me looks different inthe light and in the dark." That is the central idea that the three year olds are exploring in their classroom right now. They are working to sort activities based on when they occur and are making a book of night and day activities. They will also be discussing nocturnal animals as well as exploring the idea of shadows.

6th Grade ~ The sixth graders have just kicked off what is usually voted the favorite IB unit of the year - Lords and Ladies. The students will spend the next several weeks learning about life in the middle ages by experiencing life in different roles such as lords and vassals, knights, monks, crusaders, and merchants. This week's attitude of the week will be a big part of the sixth grade life as they work to share space at round tables instead of individual desks.

Project Suitcase

The City Council is collecting “slightly used” suitcases and duffle bags for foster children to be distributed through Child Protective Services.  The child will be given a suitcase to keep his or her belongings and special items with them when being removed from their home. (Normally they would use trash bags). Please drop off your “slightly used” suitcases in the Parish Hall any time in February!

Parents & Friends Reminders

Treat your valentine to Scrips gift cards ~ We have some cards in stock in the office or you can place an order at www.shopwithscrips.com using our school code ADBL344A14564. A percentage of every card you purchase comes back to our school.

Keep those yearbook pictures coming in. Dad's Breakfast and Valentine's Day are great times to take pictures. Remember the more pictures you submit, the more you'll see your child in the yearbook. The yearbook is going digital this year, so all pictures can be submitted to Karina Deaver (kjdeaver@hot.rr.com) in digital form or hard copies can be given to Yvonne.
