School Board Recognition

This Friday morning, starting at about 7:30, the school will be recognizing the amazing efforts of our Board of Trustees at a Board Appreciation Breakfast.  The morning will include a wonderful breakfast prepared by the faculty and staff, recognition at Town Meeting, and an opportunity for board members to tour various classrooms and see the IB program in action.  I can’t say enough about all of the work that our Board does for St. Paul’s School.  I have worked with a number of school boards over my years in education and I can honestly say that I have never worked with any board as dedicated and committed as this one.  From the efforts of our Marketing Committee to the tireless work of the Finance and Executive Committees you will always find our Board members involved in the leadership of the school.  I hope you will join us in thanking all past and current Board members for their commitment to St. Paul’s.

Recycling Plastic Bottles

We turned in our first month's worth of plastic and the weight came in at 100 pounds! Wow! Keep bringing in the plastic. Make sure all containers are thoroughly washed out before bringing them, especially if the original item contained milk.

Please check your child's backpack today for information and an ad contract or contact Karina Deaver at kjdeaver@hot.rr.com or any 6th Grade Student or Parent if you have any questions.  All ads will need to be turned in by May 4th to Yvonne in the School Office!

Discovery Fair

Congratulations to the fourth graders for their fabulous Discovery Fair projects. Each student did a great job presenting the information they had discovered and answering questions from the audience. Our first through third graders were a fabulous audience, showing respect for the person speaking and asking some very intelligent questions.

IB in Action

Attitude of the Week ~ Tolerance
~ To not allow differences to stand in the way of working together~

Showing Respect ~ Over the past two weeks, we talked about showing respect and what that looks like. We saw many students take steps to show respect for their school and for those around them. On Friday, we recognized those students teachers identified as showing respect 99% of the time. We had a list of almost 50 students! People who show respect are appreciated no matter how old they are, so we are excited to see a great foundation being laid for our students to grow into respectful adults.

Student Led Conferences

On Wednesday, we will have student led conferences at St. Paul’s Episcopal School. The IB Primary Years Program recommends this type of conference as one way to develop a student’s sense of ownership of his/her learning. Students in the 2s and 3s will have regular Parent/Teacher conferences while the older students—Pre-K through 6th---will conduct their own conferences.

The student led conference is designed to encourage the student to reflect on his/her own work and progress. This will be an opportunity for your child to share his/her thoughts on the work he/she has accomplished, his/her strengths and weaknesses, and areas he/she wants to improve. This process requires the student to think about how he/she learns as well as how he/she develops skills rather than focusing on the grade he/she received.

When you come for your conference, you will bring your child with you. Each child will have prepared a portfolio with the help of his/her teachers to share with you.  The portfolio will include examples of your child’s work in language arts, math, an IB unit, and at least one co-curricular class. Your student will have also completed a self evaluation form to share with you.

As you meet with your child, let him/her take the lead. He/She will have practiced what he/she wants to share with you. Once he/she has completed what he/she wants to share with you, then he/she will ask if you have any questions. That would be the appropriate time to ask any questions you might have. The teacher may provide prompts for you to use as you conference.

This should be a positive experience for your child and you. This is an opportunity for your child to develop self confidence. The teacher will not be in the conference but will be observing multiple conferences. To allow your child to take the lead, the teacher will remain in the background to be a resource only if needed.

At the end of the conference you will receive a reflection for you to fill out at home and return. Third nine week report cards will be mailed to you after the conference. If you need to talk with your child’s teacher about a concern, you will want to schedule another time to talk with her. There will not be time for a parent/teacher conference on this day because the student/parent conferences will be scheduled to allow several conferences to take place at the same time. Please be respectful of the time frame so that the next set of conferences can set up and be ready to go. Thanks for your support!

EARLY RELEASE will happen at 11:30. Please plan to pick up your child in his/her normal carpool location at 11:30. Conferences will begin at 12:00.
