IB in Action
6th Grade Exhibition Day ~ This Thursday will mark the culmination of the Sixth Grade Exhibition Unit. One of the IB Standards is that in the final year of the Primary Years Program, students will participate in a unit where they establish the entire learning process for themselves. Our sixth graders began in January discussing the goals and procedures of this unit. With the central idea of People use their talents and passions to help others, each student selected a topic that was of interest to them and in which there was a problem that needed to be solved. The students selected a wide variety of topics including the mistreatment of animals, environmental issues, and standard of life problems. After researching to find some background information, each student created an action plan that could have an impact on their school, city, community, or world. Several of these students partnered with local organizations and businesses to accomplish their goals. It is amazing to see what 12 year olds have done and are continuing to do. Please join us this Thursday as we celebrate their magnificent accomplishments! Their projects will be on display in the Parish Hall this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The students themselves will be there to explain their projects and answer any questions from 9 a.m. to noon. I'd encourage you to come by on your lunch break or sometime during the day and see the work these students have completed.

National Turn-Off-the-TV and Read Week
This week is the national Turn-Off-the-TV and Read Week. Our librarian, Mrs. Negrete, challenged the students this morning to take advantage of this campaign to increase reading. Each evening she will call 5-10 children at home between 7 and 7:30. If the child is reading instead of watching TV when she calls, he/she will receive a prize the next morning at Town Meeting. |
