IB Units

Hands Across the Nations ~ Children around the world are alike and different in their needs and wants.

 
Getting to Know Me ~ Discovering our personal history helps us understand who we are.
 

Lights, Camera, Action ~ Through drama, people have shared the emotions and circumstances of the past and present.

 

Around the World in 30 Days ~ People have developed maps and globes to represent the various geographical features of the earth.

 

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? ~ Humans form communities to provide for their needs and wants.

 

Green Thumbs ~ Humans rely on plants for survival.

Important Academics
Language Arts Second graders work on writing and punctuating sentences correctly. They use this knowledge to write in many different styles of writing using a specified writing process. Students also learn many important spelling patterns. Reading, through short stories and novels, focuses on comprehension of the content as well as the correct pronunciation of words.
Mathematics Everyday Mathematics encourages students to use a variety of strategies to solve problems. Second graders spend time reviewing money and time, work on double digit addition and subtraction, measurement, and learn the basis for multiplication and division.  They also learn about fractions and equivalent fractions.
Social Studies/
Science

Much of the social studies and science curriculum is learned through the IB units. Students also engage in scientific learning through bi-weekly experiments in the science lab.

Our Role in St. Paul's City

The second graders run a flea market which is open two to three times each year. Students in other grades may rent a booth from the second grade class. Renters may choose to have advertising done for their booth for an added fee.
