Important Academics |
| Language Arts |
Sixth graders are expected to master grammatical concepts including parts of speech and sentence usage; they diagram sentences to study their structure. Novels are read throughout the year and essay writing is strongly emphasized. |
| Mathematics |
Everyday Mathematics encourages students to use a variety of strategies to solve problems. Sixth graders study data analysis and display, fractions and decimals, geometry, and pre-algebra concepts. |
| Social Studies |
Sixth graders study world geography and world history. Connections to present day are made as often as possible. |
| Science |
Many exciting scientific topics are explored including chemistry, simple machines, classification of living things, and genetics. |
| Independent Study |
Over the course of the year, students will be asked to complete five major independent study projects. They will research a topic of their choice, research a country, complete a research paper on a specified topic, study geometry in the real world, and create their very own children's book. |

Our Role in St. Paul's City |
City Council ~ All sixth graders are encouraged to run for positions on the city council. The mayor, mayor pro-tem, secretaries, and treasurer are all elected from the sixth grade class.
Newspaper ~ Students publish a monthly newspaper including news, sports, entertainment, and ads.
Radio ~ Each afternoon, members of the sixth grade class run KSPW – The voice of St. Paul’s city. Radio announcers give the afternoon announcements along with interesting information. |
