Important Academics
Language Arts

Third graders learn how to identify and use the parts of speech.  An emphasis on study skills, vocabulary, and composition skills is included and writing of all types is taught. Novel reading and activities play an important role in third grade. Spelling activities serve to reinforce specific spelling rules.

Mathematics Everyday Mathematics encourages students to use a variety of strategies to solve problems. Third graders study addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as measurement, place value, geometry, fractions, and probability.
Social Studies Third graders at St. Paul’s study the fascinating history of Texas, from its early settlements to its present state. Students consistently look for connections between the past and present.
Science It is important for students to see a variety of science in their world, so to encourage this, third graders learn about topics such as interaction between plants and animals, earth and space science, and energy and forces.

Our Role in St. Paul's City

The third grade class is the Chamber of Commerce for our city. We promote good citizenship by leading the pledges each morning at Town Meeting. We have ribbon-cutting ceremonies to celebrate the opening of businesses. We register voters and conduct elections for class-representatives and city officials. We also collect taxes and rent for the city. We make payments to and collect fines for "Chance" drawings each week. We also make and deliver "Welcome" bags to new students. We assist the 1st grade during Monday and Wednesday Chapel.
