Welcome From the Head of School |
There is no greater gift you can give your child than the gift of an outstanding education. Research has shown over and over that the primary years are the most important years in your child’s education. It is nearly impossible to make up for a poor elementary foundation by sending your child to a “great” middle school or high school. At St. Paul’s we are continually raising the bar, challenging our students to be the critical thinkers needed in the world in which they will compete.
I often hear parents talk about a particular school or a philosophy of education that was “good enough for me, so it’s good enough for my child.” What concerns me about this approach to educating our children for the future is that the world of tomorrow will be much different than the world in which we grew up. One only has to look around the home at the advances in technology to understand how rapidly things are changing. Yet, many schools still educate children using the same processes as they did decades earlier. At St. Paul’s Episcopal School, we recognize that there are many options available to parents in the Waco area. But only at St. Paul’s can your child receive the internationally recognized curriculum associated with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. The IB curriculum aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who will be equipped to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. This program encourages students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
IB students are internationally aware citizens, with open minds and hearts. All IB students learn a second language. This international perspective is not gained at the expense of our own language or culture. In fact IB teaches that the only way to appreciate another language or culture is to be confident first with your own. Imbued within our entire curriculum is a strong Episcopal tradition. We have chapel three times a week and celebrate Holy Eucharist on a regular schedule. In addition, we provide wonderful Christian education opportunities for all grade levels.
Former Secretary of Education, William J. Bennett makes this statement in his book, The Educated Child, “The early years build the foundation for all later learning. Make it sturdy. The first few years of life and then the first few years of school are critical. A solid education by eighth grade is a necessity or there will be trouble in high school and beyond.” Make the decision of a lifetime and send your children to St. Paul’s, where we educate them for the future.

History of St. Paul's School |
| The dream of establishing a parochial school for her child became a reality for Mrs. Spencer Neville Brown when St. Paul's Episcopal Day School opened in September of 1956. The school was seen as a much-needed place of learning for Maria Brown and her playschool friends. Mrs. Robert L. Reese was the first principal and teacher of seventeen three-year-olds. The school increased in its early years to include classes for nursery, kindergarten, preprimary as well as first, second, and third grades. During the 1960's, a new wing was designed for expanding the school. Enrollment demands grew, along with the school's popularity. The present building was opened in the fall of 1971 with grades one through five. The sixth grade was added the following year. The Carolyn Haluska Memorial Library was created in the 1980's. In the nineties, St. Paul's added a state-of-the-art computer lab, which was updated in the summer of 2001 and again in the summer of 2004. In the summer of 2005, the current academic building underwent a major reconstruction to bring the school to a higher standard. Last year, St. Paul's celebrated 50 years of serving the children of Waco, Texas. |

Episcopal Character of the School |
St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School is fully accredited by SAES (Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools). As an accredited school, St. Paul’s operates with the knowledge and consent of the bishop of the diocese and meets rigorous standards set out by the accrediting board of SAES. This accreditation is also recognized by the Texas Education Agency.
St. Paul’s offers both worship and religious study and supports the development of students learning how to combine faith and reason. The faculty teaches in ways that encourage inquiry and outreach.
St. Paul’s welcomes and embraces diversity in its populations. The school continues to explore opportunities to increase the richness inherent in diversity in the faculty, staff and student body. Our ultimate goal is to foster a community of learners with each member taking responsibility for their part in an international community. |
